LUBBOCK, Texas-Appearing for the first time in the prestigious event, the Red Raider cross country squads placed third and 13th, respectively, at the 34th Brooks Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Goodman Campus this Friday.

Sally Kipyego and Irene Kimaiyo contributed to the women's side with their first- and second-place finishes. The Texas Tech women claimed third place out of 46 schools running. Kipyego added another strong performance on her career with a course record of 19:59, while Kimaiyo followed with a time of 20:16. Gladys Kipsang also contributed with her 23rd place and a time of 21:19 time.

Although the men did not take first place, the team placed 13th out of 40 teams. Leading the Tech pack was Senior Edwin Sang with an 11th-place finish with a 24:31 time. The next Raider to finish was Silas Kemboi, who clocked a time of 24:50. Following Sang and Kemboi, were Zach Quinones, Corry Higgins, John Means, Pedro Vargas and Logan Culotta. All eight runners completed with an average team time of 25:27.
 

 

Reclaiming its women's team title, No. 13 Princeton took first place with West Virginia following in second. Nationally ranked men's teams No. 26 Syracuse and No. 27 and Villanova, Princeton, placed in the top three spots. The Paul Short Run is one of the largest events in the country, featuring 91 college teams and 21 nationally ranked teams in Division I, II, and III. Texas Tech will host the 2007 Big 12 Cross Country Championships Oct. 26 at the Jerry S. Rawls Course.
