Kithuka Remains Perfect With Win at Arkansas|

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Texas Tech senior Kennedy Kithuka continued his stellar unbeaten streak Saturday capturing his second consecutive men's title at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival. The reigning National Athlete of the Week finished first overall in the men's 8,000-meter race with a season-best time of 23:28.1.
After morning showers moved through the area, Kithuka won his fourth-straight meet of the season to remain perfect in his career with 11 wins in 11 races as a Red Raider. He was followed Saturday by teammate Ezekiel Kissorio who also turned in a top-10 performance finishing ninth overall and seventh among university division runners with a time of 24:39.6 - also a season-best.
The duo's performance helped push Texas Tech to a top-five finish at the meet as the Red Raiders tallied 92 points - good enough for third in the team standings. Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders tied for third in the in the team standings of the women's 5,000-meter race with 98 points.
Newcomer Sharlene Nickle paced the Lady Raiders in the women's race as she finished 17th overall and 11th among university division runners with a time of 17:47.6 - a career best performance. She was followed in the Lady Raider pack by Jocelyn Caro who crossed in 18:09.5 - good for 27th overall and 16th among university division runners. Caro's performance also marked a career-best for the freshman.
Texas Tech will return to the course Oct. 19 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
