Kithuka Wins Second Mountain Region Title

Tech senior Kennedy Kithuka won his second-straight NCAA Mountain Region title Friday.

OGDEN, Utah  - Texas Tech senior Kennedy Kithuka cruised to his second-straight Mountain Region title Friday in Ogden, Utah automatically punching his ticket for the 2013 NCAA Cross Country Championship next week in Indiana.

Kithuka crossed the finish line in the 10,000-meter race with a time 29 minutes 23.6 seconds, a full 16 seconds ahead of the field.

"It was a great win by Kennedy," Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray said. "He handled the qualifying process for nationals very well."

The Red Raiders finished 12th in the team standings with 292 points while the Lady Raiders finished 14th with 354 points. With the victory Kithuka remains unbeaten in his career with 14 wins in 14-straight races.

Kithuka will look to become Tech's first men's back-to-back NCAA Cross Country Champion at the national meet Friday in Terre Haute.
