LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior distance runner Kennedy Kithuka has officially been named to The Bowerman Preseason Men's Watch List as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Wednesday.
The most prestigious postseason award in collegiate track and field, The Bowerman is given annually to the most outstanding male and female athlete in collegiate track and field.
"This is a wonderful recognition for Kennedy," Texas Tech head track and field coach Wes Kittley said. "He has done a phenomenal job representing Texas Tech both on and off the track, and we are eager for what he can accomplish for us this season."
Kithuka enters the 2013 indoor track and field season after becoming the first male runner in school history to win the NCAA Individual Cross Country Championship last fall. The Thika, Kenya native was later named the National Male Athlete of the Year for the 2012 cross country season after going undefeated in seven meets.
Kithuka's dominant 2012 cross country season also included a first place finish at the Big 12 Championships where led the field by over a minute to become Tech's first-ever male Big 12 Cross Country Champion.
Texas Tech opens its 2013 indoor track and field season Saturday with the Texas Tech Open inside the Athletic Training Center.
