Red Raiders, Lady Raiders Appear in Week 1 Regional Rankings
Both Texas Tech cross country teams appeared in Week 1 of the region team rankings released Monday.

LUBBOCK, Texas - Both Texas Tech men's and women's cross country teams appeared in the Week 1 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Associate regional team rankings released Monday morning. The Red Raiders made their first appearance of the season at No. 14 in the Mountain Region, while the Lady Raiders maintained their slot at No. 7.
Together, the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders swept the Aug. 31 Texas Tech Open in Ruidoso, N.M. to open the 2012 season.
Newcomer and Wayland Baptist transfer Kennedy Kithuka led the Red Raiders' sweep of the top four finishes while setting a course record in the four-mile run with a time of 19:40.89. The time broke the previous record of 21:23.30 set by former Red Raider Gilbert Limo.
Kithuka, a junior, comes to Tech after capturing two NAIA cross country individual championships.
Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders turned in a 1-3 sweep led by Madeline Livergood who finished with a first place time of 18:45.30 in the three-mile run.
The Texas Tech cross country program will host its only home meet of the season Friday with the Texas Tech Red Raider Open. The meet is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Meadowbrook golf course in Lubbock.
