LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raider and Lady Raider cross country teams are set to host their lone home meet of the 2013 season Friday as Texas Tech competes in the 2013 Red Raider Open at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Lubbock.
The two squads enter the meet fresh off a sweep at the Texas Tech/New Mexico State duel in August to kick off the year.
"We're excited to compete at home," head coach Jon Murray said. "We love competing in front of our home fans, and this will provide us with another quality training opportunity as we move further into our season."
The Red Raiders are led by 2012 NCAA Cross Country Champion Kennedy Kithuka who is currently unbeaten in his Texas Tech career. Kithuka opened the season finishing first overall at the Texas Tech/New Mexico State Duel by over 40 seconds.
He enters the Texas Tech Red Raider Open as the course record holder after finishing first overall in the 8,000-meter race last season with a time of 23:38.44.
The Lady Raiders enter the meet after taking three of the top-five places in Rudioso, N.M. on their way to a first place finish. The squad was led by newcomer Jocelyn Caro who finished second overall at the meet with a time of 18:08.50.
The women's team will compete in a 5,000-meter race beginning at 5:30 with the men's following in an 8,000-meter race afterwards.
Texas Tech has had a Big 12 Individual Champion in each of the last three seasons.
