LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech cross country team is set to host its lone home meet of the 2012 season on Friday.

Featuring a handful of teams from across the region, the Texas Tech Red Raider Open is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Meadowbrook Golf Course in Lubbock.

"We're very excited," eighth-year head Jon Murray said. "It's a beautiful course and we are excited to run on parents weekend with all of the Texas Tech fans in town. It's just going to be a great overall experience."

Texas Tech opened its 2012 season with an impressive showing at the Texas Tech Open held in Ruidoso, N.M. on Aug. 31. The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders swept the meet while junior transfer Kennedy Kithuka set a course record for the Red Raiders with a first place finish and time of 19:40.89 in the four-mile race.

A total of 16 teams have registered for Friday's meet which will feature a 5,000-meter women's race and an 8,000-meter men's race.
