LUBBOCK, Texas - On the heels of an impressive showing at the Red Raider Open, the Texas Tech cross country team will compete this weekend in its third meet of the season.

The squad will travel to Lawrence, Kan. to compete at the Kansas Rim Rock Classic Saturday morning in its first true road test of the year. The men's 8k race has a scheduled start time of 9 a.m. with the women following in a 6k race at 10 a.m.

"We are excited for several reasons," head coach Jon Murray said. "The competition is going to be much better than what we have seen. The competition on both the men's and women's side is very good and there have been a lot of good races held on this course."

Texas Tech will compete with 16 teams from across the region at the meet. The squad coming off an impressive performance at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open where the men's team finished first overall and junior Kennedy Kithuka set his second straight course record on the year.

Kithuka finished first overall with a course record time of 23:38.44 in the 8,000-meter race, and was later named the Big 12 Runner of the Week for his performance.

For the Red Raiders, the Texas Tech Red Raider Open marked their second consecutive win of the season after capturing a first place finish at the Texas Tech Open in Ruidoso, N.M. in the first meet of the fall season.

The Lady Raiders are coming off a second place finish at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open where they were led by junior Chelsea Scott who garnered her second consecutive top-five finish crossing the line fifth with a time of 19:37.94 in the 5,000-meter race.

The Lady Raiders enter the meet ranked No. 11 in the Mountain Region while the Red Raiders are ranked No. 14.
