Tech Cross Country Places 8 on Academic All-Big 12 Team|

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech cross country program placed eight student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 team released today by the conference office.
Seven of Tech's representatives earned first team honors with GPAs of 3.2 or higher and a participation rate of more than 60 percent.
"It's part of being a champion," Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray said. "In the classroom, outside of the classroom, they all take care of their business with their academics."
Representing the Red Raiders on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team were Kory Mauritsen (Junior - Mechanical Engineering), Marcos Vallejo (Sophomore - Exercise and Sports Sciences) and Daniel Wedell (Sophomore - Geography).
Representing the Lady Raiders on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team were Katy Allen (Sophomore - Exercise and Sports Sciences), Sarah Bailey (Sophomore - Exercise and Sports Sciences) Madeline Livergood (Junior - Exercise and Sports Sciences) and Chelsea Scott (Senior Accounting).
Meanwhile, defending NCAA Champion Kennedy Kithuka earned second team honors as a senior in Human Sciences.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Texas Tech will compete at the Big 12 Championships Nov. 2 in Waco, Texas.
