LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's and women's cross country squads are set to compete at the NCAA Mountain Regional meet Friday in Fort Collins, Colo.

The women's team will compete in a 6,000-meter race scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) with the men following in a 10,000-meter race scheduled for 2 p.m. (CT) at the Collindale Golf Course.

"This is the next step," head coach Jon Murray said. "We're looking to qualify as many as we can for nationals. That's the main goal for this meet is to qualify for nationals."

The top two teams from each regional earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky. and the top four runners not associated with qualifying teams will advance as individuals. Additional teams and individuals are chosen through an at-large selection process.

Texas Tech is coming off an impressive showing at the Big 12 Conference meet on Oct. 27 where sensational junior Kennedy Kithuka captured the men's individual Big 12 Championship finishing first overall by over a minute. Kithuka is unbeaten in five meets this season.
