Rose Tanui Qualifies for NCAA Cross Country Championships
Tanui placed fifth at the NCAA Championships last year

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior women's cross country runner Rose Tanui will be competing in her second consecutive NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Championships as she qualified with an at-large invitation after a third-place finish at the regional meet.
Tanui is one of 38 individuals that were selected to participate in the championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.
The NCAA Championships meet will be held Monday, Nov. 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. Indiana State University is hosting the event.
Tanui grabbed an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships with a third-place finish last Saturday at the Mountain Regionals at BYU in Provo, Utah. Tanui's regional time was 20:54.0 in the 6K event. Her time was less than a second behind second-place finisher Morgan Haws of BYU. UTEP's Risper Kimaiyo won the regional with a time of 20:35.2.
Last year, Tanui's first as a Red Raider, she placed fifth at the NCAA meet with a time of 20:17.6, which was only a second off of the fourth-place pace.
Tanui's career at Texas Tech has included winning seven individual championships while she hasn't placed lower than fifth place (2010 NCAA Meet) in any race. This season Tanui has continued her success winning three races and placing third in three competitions.
The women's meet will begin at approximately 11:58 a.m. Central time, just after the men's race that starts at 11:08 a.m. Central time. A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Central time, Monday, Nov. 21, on www.NCAA.com.
