Texas Tech Routs Panhandle State, 12-2
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech men's baseball team, playing in its first game since being "snowed" out Wednesday, routed Panhandle State 12-2 at Dan Law Field Sunday. Texas Tech improved to 1-1 on the young season while Panhandle State fell to 0-1.
Texas Tech was the first squad to get on the board, scoring three runs in the third inning. The Red Raiders went on to blow the game open with seven more runs in the fourth to take the 10-0 lead. Panhandle State scored two runs in the fifth, but the Red Raider lead proved to be insurmountable and Tech cruised to the ten-run victory.
Chris Shuffield was the offensive workhorse for Texas Tech, hitting two-for-four with two RBI and a solo home run while Josh Bard added three RBI.
The Red Raiders' Monty Ward picked up his first victory of the season against no losses while Scott Mendenhall took the loss for Panhandle State.
Texas Tech will return to action Friday, when they host Southern Illinois in the first contest of a three-game series. Friday's game will begin at 3 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday's matchups both have 2 p.m. start times.
