Texas Tech Cruises Past College of Southwest
LUBBOCK, Texas - Coach Larry Hays clearned his bench Tuesday night as the Red Raiders used 20 players -- including six pitchers -- en route to a 12-1 victory over College of Southwest.
"Tonight was good because we were able to get a lot of people in the game," Hays said. "We had some players who have been hurt and they finally got to play. I was pleased with the pitching except for that one base on balls (which eventually scored)."
Joe Dillon, who had 10 homers all of last year, hit a two-run blast in the fourth inning for his ninth round tripper of the year.
Keith Ginter extended his hitting streak to 15 and also had a double and two stolen bases, which give him 15 on the year. Plus, he enjoyed his ninth multi-hit game of the year. Jess Olivares recorded his sixth multi-hit game.
Six pitchers combined on the four-hitter, striking out 15. Starter and winner Shane Wright scattered three hits over three innings, David Therneau hurled a perfect fourth inning, Kirk Ulrich allowed one hit, and one walk in the fifth and sixth inning and gave up the run.
Jeff Peck, Zach Stewart and Jimmy Hooper finished things off. Peck struck out two, Stewart one and Hooper two.
The Raiders now trek to Waco for a key Big 12 showdown this weekend, with a 7 p.m. game Friday and 2 p.m. games Saturday and Sunday.
