Texas Tech defeats Grand Canyon, 21-3
Joe Dillon Ties Single-Season Home-Run Record at 24
LUBBOCK, Texas - Number one ranked Texas tech completed its series versus Grand Canyon by bashing the Antelopes 21-3 in a game that was called after seven and a half innings to accommodate Grand Canyon travel plans.
Joe Dillon and Keith Ginter each had five RBI for the Red Raiders. Dillon's two-run home run in the fifth inning gave him 24 on the season which ties the John Grimes' Tech single-season home run record. The record tying shot came in the middle of a nine-run rally for the Raiders. The rally put the game out of reach. Also homering for the Raiders were Ginter, who hit the first of his two home runs in the game in that fifth-inning surge, Josh Bard and Jess Oliveras.
David Therneau ran his season mark to four wins and no losses by allowing only two runs on four hits and striking out eight batters in six innings of work. Darren Taylor got the loss for Grand Canyon.
A crowd of 1,142 at the afternoon game saw Texas Tech go to 34-5 on the season.
