Texas Tech Rallies to Beat OSU
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Texas Tech scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to comeback from a 4-1 deficit to defeat Oklahoma State 7-6 and advance to the finals of the 1997 Big 12 Baseball Tournament.
Joe Dillon lead off the frame with his school record 32nd home run of the year. After Tech tied it up at four each, the go-ahead runs scored on Keith Ginter's two RBI triple. A Jason Landreth RBI single scored Ginter for Tech's seventh run.
Oklahoma State mounted a rally in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs on Billy Gasparino's two RBI double. Two singles in the ninth inning were erased on a pickoff and a game-ending double play.
After slumping early in the tournament, Rusty McNamara continued his hot streak with a first inning two run homer that put OSU up 2-0. Gasparino and Ryan Folmar each went 2-for-4 on the night.
Tech's late innings pitching keyed the win Jimmy Frush, Zach Stewart and Brad Ralston combine on the final five and two-thirds innings allowing just two runs on six hits and a walk. Frush picked up the win to improve to 5-3 while Ralston earned his seventh save.
Neil Forsythe (0-1) took the loss for OSU pitching just a third of an inning yielding four runs on five hits in the sixth inning.
Oklahoma State will face cross-state rival Oklahoma in an elimination game at 1 pm Sunday. The winner of the OU-OSU game advances to face Texas Tech in the one game championship at 7 pm.
