Was Texas Tech's everyday catcher throughout the 2004 campaign and ended the year with a 5.35 catcher's ERA with 51 starts behind the dish...hit .250 during the season and had 37 hits, five doubles, one home run and 21 RBI...had his best weekend series against Kansas as he went .667 at the plate and totaled five RBI...was named to the NCAA Atlanta Regional All-Tournament Team.
After getting a slow start to the season, Fouts quickly became one of the top defensive catchers in the Big 12 as he gunned down stealing runners at an alarming rate as he caught 21-of-46 on the base paths...Finished with a .275 batting average along with five doubles, one triple and one home run...started 50 games behind the dish...BIG 12...Big 12 runners had trouble running on the sophomore as he caught 12-of-18 runners trying to steal for a percentage of .666...hit 244 with 10 RBI...Started all three games at of the opening series with New Mexico and hit .300 at the plate and recorded 25 putouts behind the dish...tallied five hits in the weekend series with San Diego...tallied a career high three RBI in the win over TCU on Feb. 18...went 4-for-9 in the series against Texas A&M including a multi-hit day against the Aggies on Sunday to help seal a 6-4 win...had a stellar series defensively against Texas by throwing out three runners on six attempts...hit .500 in the series against Missouri...had a big day against Nebraska on April 25 as he went 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBI to lead Tech to a 16-9 win over the #6 Huskers....went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs scored and hit his first career home run against Wofford
on May 9.
AT COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA
Enrolled at the Community College of Southern Nevada in the fall of 2001 and played just one season under head coach Tim Chambers before signing with Texas Tech...helped lead his team to a third place finish in the conference tournament...hit .324 (in a wood bat league) with four doubles, two triples and a home run...defensively he had a .984 fielding percentage and 52 assists.
Played varsity baseball at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nev....played under coaches Kenny White, Bill Rodrigues and Matt Jose...as a freshman his team placed third in the state while advancing to the zone championships his sophomore and junior seasons...in his final season at Bishop Gorman his team once again placed third in the state....was an All-Conference and All-District pick all four years of school and was All-State his junior and senior seasons...drafted by the Oakland Athletics.
Born on March 19, 1983 in Kokomo, Indiana to parents Chris and Karen Fouts...father Chris works in sales and is a graduate of Indiana University while mother Karen is a dentist and is also a graduate of Indiana University...has an older brother Nathan (24) who also played for the Red Raiders and a younger sister Missy (19).
