Played his first full season after sitting out the two previous years due to a recurring blood clot...drew four early starts but saw limited duties as a reliever for the remainder of the season...finished the year with a 2-1 record and an 8.71 ERA through 31 innings and 14 appearances...gave up 30 earned runs on 37 hits while issuing 20 walks and striking out 27...opponents hit .291 against him and was second on the team with nine hit batters...earned his first win of the season after pitching six innings of relief against Northern Illinois on Feb. 12...allowed just four hits and struck out five batters in that game in what was his first win since opening day of 2004...improved to 2-0 on the year after earning his first start against Western Illinois in the first game of a doubleheader on Feb. 19...pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing three earned runs on one hit...was the starting pitcher in what turned out to be the 1,400th career win for coach Larry Hays against Lamar on March 12th in Midland...was pulled after giving up three runs through four innings against the Cardinals....IN THE BIG 12...made just three appearances in league play and finished with a 16.62 ERA over 4 1/3 innings.

Played in just one game as he suffered through another blood clot in the same arm as in 2003....made the start on Tech's opening day and struckout four Campbell batters in six innings of work and allowed just three hits...was scheduled to start the Houston game at Minute Maid Park when the blood clot surfaced again.

Received medical redshirt.

Played varsity baseball, golf and cross country at Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas...was coached by Todd Ritter and Jason 2001 and 2002 he was a First-Team All-District 2001 he was named the Pitcher of the Year in his district and was the Mesquite High School Most Valuable 2002 he was named to the Lamar Classic and Coca Cola Classic All-Tournament team...tallied a 1.99 ERA his senior year with a record of 7-4 and 85 strikeouts...graduated from MHS in June of 2002...drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2002 MLB Draft.

Born on June 23, 1984 in Dallas, Texas to parents Randy and Becky Gattis...has an older sister, Amber (25)....currently majoring in general studies and hopes to pursue a career in campus ministry...enjoys playing golf in his spare time... general studies major.
