Baseball Wins Second Game vs. West Texas A&M

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team defeated West Texas A&M 14-3 in the second game of a three-game series with the Buffaloes Saturday at Dan Law Field. The win improves Texas Tech to 2-1 on the season and drops West Texas A&M to 0-2. Game three of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Dan Law Field.
The Red Raiders grabbed a 5-0 lead after the second inning and never looked back. Josh Bard's RBI single in the first inning put Tech up 1-0. Ryan Ruiz' two-RBI double, a Keith Ginter sacrifice fly and a wild pitch in the second inning put Tech up 5-0. Tech scored two more in the fourth on a home run by Ginter and an RBI single by Ruiz.
Highlight offensive performances for Tech included Ruiz, who drove in 3 RBI on 2-3 hitting, Bard, who went 3-5 with an RBI, Mark Austry, who finished 3-5 with an RBI and Ginter, who drove in 3 RBI on one hit. Brennan Burns went 2-4 with 2 RBI and Miles Durham finished 2-4 with four runs scored.
Tech also shut down the Buffaloes on the mound as starter Jesse Cornejo pitched the first four straight scoreless innings and ended up with the victory after allowing four hits and three runs and striking out seven in 5.0 innings pitched. Reliever Cade Allison struck out seven batters and allowed only three hits over 3.0 innings pitched and Brad Ralston pitched the ninth and struck out two.
Jackie McNellie earned the loss for West Texas A&M. Steve Luda finished 2-4 for the Buffaloes.
