LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech won its 65th non-conference home series since 1989 by beating the Cal-State Northridge Matadors 9-2 on Sunday afternoon before 2, 263 fans at Dan Law Field.

With the win, Tech is now 6-3 on the year while Cal-State Northridge fell to 8-4. Texas Tech earned its 65th non-conference home series win dating back to the 1989 season. Overall, Tech has won or split 74-straight home series at Dan Law Field dating back to a two-game loss to Hardin Simmons (5-6, 2-9) on April 18, 1989.

At the start of the game, the Red Raiders looked as if they might fall prey to errors for the second straight day as third baseman Matt Deichert overthrew first baseman Chad Landry that allowed J.T. Stotts to reach safely on the first play of the game. Texas Tech rebounded on the defensive end and didn't allow another error the rest of the day.

Senior pitcher Brandon Roberson was Tech's saving grace as he pitched 6.0 innings striking out seven batters, giving up just three hits and one earned run. Roberson sat down 13 consecutive batters between the second and sixth innings and even drew a high-five from the Matador pitching coach upon being replaced in the seventh inning. With the win, Roberson improved his season record to 1-1 while earning his first win since West Texas A&M on Feb. 2, 2000. Roberson was sidelined for the remainder of the 2000 season with an injury.

Tech jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first off an RBI single by Kerry Hodges and an RBI groundout by Stephen Leist. Tech padded its lead with six runs in the four, fifth and sixth innings.

Anthony Arnerich paced the Red Raiders with two hits and two RBI while Kerry Hodges, Gera Alvarez, Jason Rainey and Bryon Smith each added two hits each.

Texas Tech will head west this week as the Red Raiders will face the New Mexico Lobos on Tuesday afternoon in Albuquerque, N.M. and then travel to San Diego, Calif. for the Greater San Diego Baseball Classic at San Diego State University.
