The Texas Tech baseball team dropped the second game of the weekend series with USC on Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field. The Red Raiders spotted the Trojans a 5-1 lead and were unable to overcome the deficit losing 9-4.

Both teams got on the board early with a run in the first inning. Lead off hitter Miles Durham started the bottom half of the first with an infield single. He then stole second and moved to third on a pass ball. Soott Holzhauer scored Durham with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

In the fifth inning, the Trojans added four more runs on five hits as 10 batters came to the plate. Tech starter Matt Harbin allowed three straight hits to open the inning and was relieved by Cory Metzler. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Red Raiders added a pair of runs with solo home runs from Jason Rainey and Durham. USC scored three runs in the top of the ninth and held the Red Raiders to a single run in the bottom of the ninth to win, 9-4.

Holzhauer and Durham combined to go 5-9 with two runs and three RBI. Durham finished the game 3-5 with a home run, two runs, two RBI and a stolen base. David O'Keeffe, Rainey and Brennan Burns had the Red Raiders three other hits.
