Baseball Team Defeats Long Beach State in Game Two of Series

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team defeated Long Beach State 12-6 in game two of a three-game series Saturday at Texas Tech's Dan Law Field. The win improves Texas Tech to 6-2 on the season and drops Long Beach State to 1-5.

Texas Tech was fueled by three of its top four hitters. Senior designated hitter Keith Ginter hit a two-run home run (his fourth on the season) in the seventh inning to seal the victory. Ginter finished the afternoon 3-3 with a home run, double, two RBI and five runs scored. Sophomore catcher Josh Bard tagged the game winning RBI on a two-RBI triple in the sixth inning. He also belted his first home run on the season in the eighth inning. He finished the game 3-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Senior outfielder Jason Landreth hit his third home run on the season on a two-run shot in the first inning. He completed the day 2-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.

On the mound, starter Jesse Cornejo earned the victory after pitching 6.1 innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing six earned runs on nine hits. Reliever Brad Ralston, already Texas Tech's career save leader, earned his first save on the season after pitching the final 2.1 innings and allowing only one hit and striking out three batters.

Texas Tech will start Monty Ward (2-0, 0.82) in tomorrow's final contest beginning at 2 p.m. at Texas Tech's Dan Law Field
