Baseball Sweeps Long Beach State with 5-4, 10 inning Final Game|

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior shortstop Junior Rodriguez drove home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning on a single over the Long Beach State rightfielders' head to give Texas Tech a 5-4 extra innings victory Sunday at Texas Tech's Dan Law Field. The victory completes a three-game sweep for Texas Tech of Long Beach State, Tech's second sweep of the season. The win improves Texas Tech to 7-2 on the season while Long Beach State drops to 1-6.
With one out and Jason Landreth on third and Kevin Jordan at second in the 10th inning, Rodriguez ripped a 3-2 pitch over the 49ers' rightfielders' head to drive home the winning run. Both Landreth (single) and Jordan (hit by pitch) advanced to third and second on a wild pitch by Long Beach State reliever Jason Marr.
Reliever Brad Ralston struck out five, allowed only two hits and pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for the victory in relief. Starter Monty Ward pitched 7 1/3 innings, striking out 10 and allowed seven hits and three earned runs in a solid outing.
Rodriguez ended the game with hits in five at-bats. Red Raiders with one-hit games included Mark Austry (1-5), Jason Landreth (1-4), Josh Bard (1-4), Jason Huth (1-3) and Ryan Ruiz (1-3). Second baseman Kevin Jordan continued his nine-game hitting streak with a 1-4 performance. Jordan is the only Red Raider to hit safely in every game this season.
The Red Raiders are next in action on Tuesday and Wednesday at Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Ariz. Game times are at 3 p.m. Tech will play in the Oakland A's invitational in Phoenix on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
