LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior left-handed pitcher Rusty Shellhorn pitched seven-shutout innings in his debut to lead the Red Raiders to an 8-0 shutout over Tennessee Tech on Sunday at Rip Griffin Park.
Texas Tech improves to 3-0 in the Red Raider Classic while Tennessee Tech finishes its competition with a 1-3 mark.
Shellhorn (1-0) allowed only two hits through six innings had plenty of offense while four Texas Tech hitters finished with multi-hit games. Junior Scott LeJeune led the way going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double and freshman shortstop Tim Proudfoot went 2-for-4 with two RBI and collected his second triple of the young season.
The Red Raiders scored two runs in the first, a run in the third, three in the fourth and two runs in the eighth.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Trey Masek pitched 1.2 innings and struck out two batters while yielding only one hit in his second outing of the season.
Texas Tech will complete play at the Red Raider Classic at 2 p.m. against Missouri State.
