PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Texas Tech starter Shane Wright limited Grand Canyon to one run in his second complete game as Texas Tech notched its eighth victory on the season with a 7-1 victory at Grand Canyon. With the victory, Texas Tech improves to 8-2 on the 1998 campaign as Grand Canyon falls to 8-3.

While Wright was doing the job on the mound, the Texas Tech offense scored five runs in its first three innings. Tech scored one run in the first inning after Keith Ginter reached base on an error and Jason Landreth drove him home with a sacrifice fly. The Red Raiders scored two in the second inning on Jason Huth's RBI ground ball and Mark Austry's RBI single. Shortstop Junior Rodriguez nailed a two-RBI home run over the right field fence to put Texas Tech up 5-0 in the third inning. That was all Texas Tech needed.
Rodriguez finished the afternoon 2-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, Huth finished 2-5 with his first homer of the season and two RBI, Brandon Buckley wnet 2-5 with two runs scored, Austry finished 2-4 with an RBI and Josh Bard went 2-5 with a run scored.
The game also marked the return of Keith Ginter to second base. Ginter, recovering from an arm injury which reduced his role to designated hitter in the first nine games, handled six defensive plays and finished with one putout and five assists.
