Raiders Baseball Defeats Howard Payne|

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team defeated Howard Payne 6-1 Tuesday at Dan Law Field. Texas Tech improves to 10-5 overall while Howard Payne drops to 4-2.
The Red Raiders travel to College Station on Thursday to open Big 12 Conference play against the Aggies on Friday (3 p.m.) Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.). Texas A&M played Texas Pan American on Tuesday.
Texas Tech pitcher Jesse Cornejo (3-1) sparked Texas Tech to victory. The junior lefthanded transfer from Seward County J.C. pitched a complete game 9.0 innings and allowed only seven hits, two walks and one earned run. He also struck out seven batters for his third victory on the season.
Texas Tech scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Two came on Josh Bard's second home run of the season. The first run was scored by Miles Durham on an error by Howard Payne's third baseman. The Red Raiders added one run in the second, one in the fourth and one in the eighth.
Tech was led by Bard who finished 3-4 with a home run, fourth double of the season and two RBI. Freshman outfielder Miles Durham finished 3-5 with a runs scored, Jason Landreth went 1-3 with two bases on balls and freshman David Tuley went 2-4 in his first start of his short career.
Howard Payne's John Elder (0-1) took the loss.
