Red Raiders Fall To No. 17 Texas A&M 8-6
March 1, 2002 COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 17 Texas A&M scored three runs in the last four innings edging out No. 22 Texas Tech 8-6 in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday evening at Olsen Field in College Station, Texas. With the loss, Texas Tech falls to 13-6 on the season while Texas A&M improves to 12-4 on the year. Texas Tech took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning for the second time today but the Aggies rallied in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run home run by Neal Stephenson. Tech tied the game in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by Austin Cranford that plated Jon Slack who drew a one-out walk earlier in the inning. A&M retook the lead in the bottom of the second scoring two runs on three hits and a fielding error by Tech first baseman Bryon Smith. Texas Tech traded more punches with the Aggies in the top of the third as the Red Raiders put up three runs on four hits and two A&M defensive miscues. Joel Buchenauer delivered the biggest hit of the inning when he hit a two-RBI single up the middle to put the Red Raiders in the lead. Texas A&M scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles by David Evans and Tim Petru giving the Aggies a 7-6 lead. Logan Kensing earned the win for Texas A&M and improved to 1-0 on the year while Dusty Buck (1-1) took the loss for Texas Tech.
Texas Tech will try to avoid a sweep on Saturday as they take on the Aggies at 2 p.m. in the final game of the series at Olsen Field.
