LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech had a three run rally in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough to overcome the 15th ranked Nebraska as the Cornhuskers hung on for an 8-7 win at Dan Law Field on Saturday. With the win, Nebraska has secured the series win after posting a 3-2 win on Friday night.

Just like on Friday night, Texas Tech (12-8) had its chances but was unable to capitalize on the big hit and suffered its second straight Big 12 loss sending Tech into a season-high three-game losing skid.

Nebraska's Dan Johnson hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning as part of a five-run Husker inning breaking a 4-4 tie. Texas Tech rallied in the bottom of the ninth when Chad Landry hit a two-run home run bringing Tech within two. The home run snapped a nine-game home streak in which Tech had been held without a home run. Nick Blankenship brought Tech within one after belting an RBI single to left field.

With two outs remaining in the bottom of the ninth, Kerry Hodges found himself in the exact same situation as last night but unfortunately for Texas Tech it ended in the same result. Tech had runners on first and second but Hodges struckout looking ending Tech's hope of a comeback win.

Steve Hale (2-0) took the win for the Huskers while Blake McGinley (1-2) suffered the loss for Texas Tech. Thom Ott was credited with his first save of the season for Nebraska. The game was in a rain delay for 43 minutes.

Texas Tech and Nebraska will play the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Dan Law Field.
