LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior right-handers Michael McGowan and Tanner McElroy combined for nine strikeouts and a seven-inning shutout as the Red Raiders cruised to an 11-0 win over the Air Force Falcons on Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field.

The win moves Texas Tech to 12-4 on the season while Air Force falls to 4-9.

Texas Tech took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jose Delgado scored on an RBI single by first baseman Josh Brady. Delgado reached on a two-base error with one out in the inning to set up the scoring opportunity.

Tech took control of the game in the second as Matthew Coco delivered a two-run home run in the inning and Michael Mask picked up an RBI single. Coco's home runs was his second of the season.

The Red Raiders tacked on four more runs in the fourth to take a 8-0 lead. Cameron Blair belted a three-run homer in the inning to give him four on the season.

Tech added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take an 11-0 lead. Tanner McElroy, who replaced Michael McGowan in the sixth, closed out the final two innings to give Tech the run-rule win.

Michael McGowan (1-0) made his first appearance of the 2004 season today and he made it a good one as he pitched five shutout innings allowing just five this while striking out five. Ken Hodgson (1-3) took the loss for Air Force as he gave up seven earned runs on nine hits through three innings of work.

Texas Tech returns to action on Friday as the Red Raiders will begin play the Maxwell Auto Group Round Rock College Classic. Tech will take on Illinois at 11 a.m. on Friday, seventh-ranked Notre Dame at 11 a.m. on Friday and Texas State at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
