LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 14 Texas put an end to Texas Tech's 22-game home win streak on Saturday afternoon as the Longhorns dropped the Red Raiders 6-3 to even the crucial Big 12 series at 1-1.

With the loss, Texas Tech falls to 16-8 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12 while Texas improves to 16-5 and 2-3 in the league.

Texas took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning racking up five hits on Tech starter Steve Gooch. The Red Raiders answered in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore Brent Fossum hit a solo home run. Fossum's home run would have plated two if Tyler Carson hadn't made a base running error prior to Fossum's at-bat.

Tech's misfortunes continued as the Red Raiders stranded four runs over the next four innings while falling behind 5-1 on a two-run Texas fourth.

The Red Raiders pulled within two in the bottom of the sixth on a two-RBI single by Joel Buchenauer. Texas added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to give Texas the final 6-3 lead.

Texas' Justin Simmons improved to 5-0 on the year after tossing 6.0 innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits. Steve Gooch suffered the loss for Texas Tech and fell to 2-2 on the year and 0-2 in Big 12 play. Gooch surrender four earned runs on 10 hits in his 6 1/3 innings of work.

Texas Tech and Texas will play the rubber match of the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
