LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech rallied with four runs in the bottom of the eighth but it was not enough as Sam Houston State edged the Red Raiders 12-11 on Tuesday at Dan Law Field.

With the loss, Texas Tech falls to 17-9 overall while Sam Houston State improved to 9-9.

Sam Houston State took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first as the Bearkats rocked Tech starter Chad Ertel with four hits and took advantage of an error by third baseman Eric Kitchen. Texas Tech got with two in the bottom half of the inning on an Bearkat defensive error and a Gera Alvarez RBI single.

The Bearkats scored five crucial runs in the top of the fifth off of Tech starter Matt Harbin who surrendered five hits and committed two errors.

Texas Tech rallied in the bottom of the eighth scoring four runs on three hits. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Scooter Jordan and an RBI single by Madison Edwards.

Chad Ertel suffered the loss for Texas Tech and falls to 0-1 while Nathan Brewer (1-0) picked up the win for Sam Houston State.

Texas Tech and Sam Houston State will wrap up the two-game set at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at Dan Law Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
