LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech allowed 16 base hits as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated the Red Raiders 14-5 on Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
Freshman David Paiz led Tech (9-6) at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBI while hitting his first career home run in the sixth inning to get Texas Tech on the scoreboard.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi led 1-0 going into the fifth inning before plating three runs in the fifth, four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 9-1 lead.
Texas Tech scored four runs in the seventh inning on four base hits to close the gap to 9-5.
A&M-Corpus Christi increased its lead with five runs in the ninth inning, sparked by designated hitter Matt Hollands' grand slam - which gave him the cycle for the day. He finished going 4-for-6 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Eight Red Raiders tallied base hits, but only Paiz and Popescu (2-for-4) finished with multiple hits.
Texas Tech will finish the day taking on Iowa (4-6) with a 4 p.m. first pitch at Dan Law Field.
