Baseball Loses in Extra Innings to TCU

LUBBOCK, Texas - TCU took advantage of five Texas Tech errors and scored one run in the 11th inning on an RBI single by Sam Lunsford to register an 8-7 extra innings victory against Texas Tech Wednesday at Dan Law Field. The loss drops Texas Tech to 14-8 overall and improves TCU to 13-8 overall. Tech is next in action against Lindenwood College in Lubbock Saturday at 2 p.m.

TCU came back from a 5-3 deficit with three runs in the seventh inning. Lunsford added an RBI double and Chris Connally drove in a run a groundout and Royce Huffman added an RBI single for a 7-4 lead. Texas Tech came back in with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and one in the eighth inning to tie the game at 7-7 and sending the game into extra innings. Josh Bard's RBI groundout drove in the run in the seventh and Junior Rodriguez' RBI single in the eighth tied the game at 7-7.

TCU finally scored its final run in the top of the 11th on an RBI single by Lunsford. Lunsford's two doubles put him into a first place tie on the TCU career doubles list.

Texas Tech had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the 11th inning when the Red Raiders loaded the bases with two outs. Miles Durham and Brandon Buckley both singled, then moved from first and second to second and third on a wild pitch. Leadoff hitter Keith Ginter, who hit two home runs in his first two at-bats and finished 3-5 on the day, was intentionally walked loading the bases for Brennan Burns. TCU pitcher Jeff Shaddix (1-1) got Burns to groundout to his first baseman to end the game.

Tech reliever Brad Ralston (3-2) earned the loss after walking two batters and allowing only two hits and one run (one earned) in 4.0 innings pitched. He struck out five batters. Shane Wright started and pitched 7.0 innings and gave up nine hits and three earned runs. He struck out five TCU batters.

Ginter led the Tech offense with his 3-5 performance (two home runs). He also scored four runs and drove in two RBI, Durham finished 2-5 with a run scored.
