LUBBOCK, Texas- - The Texas Tech baseball team woke up in the fifth inning to score four runs and finish the game with a 9-5 victory over Valley City State University at Dan Law Field.

Texas Tech (16-10) fired up after second baseman Matt Deichert homered to left field, followed by homeruns from third baseman Nick Blankenship, left fielder Jason Rainey and right fielder Kerry Hodges. Senior right-handed pitcher Clancy Fossum (1-0) earned his first win of the season after pitching 4.2 innings giving up two runs, three hits and two strikeouts. Manley Mackendenski took the loss for the Greyhounds and fell to 0-1on the year.

Texas Tech travels to Manhattan for a series against the Kansas State Wildcats, March 16-18.
