LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech starting pitcher Monty Ward tied the school record for 18 strikeouts as he completed a nine inning two hit shutout as Texas Tech defeated Lindenwood 19-0 at Dan Law Field Saturday. The victory improved Texas Tech to 15-8 on the season and drops Lindenwood to 10-6 overall. Texas Tech is next in action on Monday, March 16 at home against New Mexico. Game time has been switched from 7 p.m. to 3 p.m. due to anticipated weather.

The last time a Texas Tech pitcher struck out 18 batters was on April 27, 1968 when Buddy Hampton achieved that against Abilene Christian University. Ward's 18 strikeouts were his career high, breaking his previous best of 13 vs. Southern Illinois last year. The victory also marked his first shutout complete game on the season. He allowed only two hits, no runs and walked only one batter in 29 batters faced and 9.0 innings pitched.

Texas Tech's 19 runs tied a season-high for runs scored in a game. The 19-run victory margin was the most a Red Raider team had won by since March 21, 1997.

While Ward was doing the job on the mound, the Texas Tech offense did the job at the plate. The Red Raiders banged out 21 hits, drove in 17 runs and scored 19 runs. Tech used a six inning fourth and another six inning sixth to secure the victory. The Red Raiders hit two home runs, three triples and three doubles.

Designated hitter Brennan Burns and third baseman Kevin Jordan had the key days. Burns went 2-4 with a home run that carromed off the left field foul poll, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. Jordan finished at 3-4 with his fourth home run of the year, a triple, drove in four runs and scored two. Other Red Raiders with two hits apiece included Josh Bard (2-3, 2 RBI), Joe Smith (2-2, 1 RBI), Ryan Ruiz (2-3, 2 doubles, RBI). Jason Huth drove in three runs on a sixth inning triple.
