Box Score

WACO, Texas - The eighth-ranked Baylor Bears picked up their first series win over Texas Tech since 1999 as the Bears dropped No. 20 Texas Tech 9-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Baylor Ballpark in Waco.

The loss drops Texas Tech to 17-8 on the season and 1-2 in Big 12 play while Baylor improves to 17-6 and 2-1 in league play.

Texas Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by designated hitter Sean Alexander that plated Scooter Jordan all the way from first. Baylor starting pitcher Sean Walker walked the bases loaded and then gave Tech its second run of the inning when he walked sophomore center fielder Cody Fuller.

The Red Raider lead quickly evaporated in the bottom half of the inning as Tech starter Tanner McElroy walked Chris Durbin and David Murphy setting up a three-run home run by Josh Ford that cleared the scoreboard in left-center.

Baylor pushed its lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the third as the Bears chalked up four hits in the inning and chased starter Tanner McElroy way having thrown just 1 1/3 innings giving up six hits, five earned runs and two walks.

The fourth inning for the Red Raiders was not a good one as Scooter Jordan reached on a base hit but had to leave the game after pulling his left hamstring. Christian Colonel seemingly put two runs on the board with a long ball hit to the gap in left-center but a spectacular catch by Baylor center fielder Chris Durbin robbed the third baseman of two RBI.

The Texas Tech defense fell apart for the third straight game in the bottom of the sixth as two Red Raider errors led to two Baylor runs and the Bears held a commanding 7-2 lead heading into the seventh.

Baylor added two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take a seven run lead into the ninth.
