LUBBOCK, Texas - Jordan Danks and Michael Torres each added five RBI while Texas scored in all but three innings as the 13th-ranked Longhorns blistered Texas Tech 22-6 on Thursday night in the series opener at Dan Law Field.

The loss drops Texas Tech to 10-9 overall and to 1-3 in league play while Texas improves to 15-5 and 3-1 in the Big 12.

The Longhorns struck early and often in the contest as they plated a pair of runs in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead. The Red Raiders came bouncing back in the bottom of the second as Tech rallied for three runs including a two-run home run by Monk Kreder. With the bases loaded, a potential grand slam by Jason Seefeld went just foul down the left field line and the Red Raiders trailed by one run 4-3 going into the top of the third.

The wheels came off for the Red Raiders in the top of the third as the Longhorns pounded out six runs on five hits and chased away Tech starter Nate Karns who issued six walks on the night. Jordan Danks delivered the fatal blow in the inning as he blasted a two-out, bases loaded triple to right field that pushed the Longhorn lead to 10-3.

Texas turned the game into a runaway with a four-run sixth, a three-run eighth and a five-run ninth to take the 22-6 win.

Nate Karns suffered his third straight loss after giving up eight runs on six hits and six walks over 2 2/3 innings of work. Brandon Workman (3-1) picked up the win in relief as he logged 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and struckout six.

Texas Tech will try and even this three-game series tomorrow evening here at Dan Law Field. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
