Texas Tech Defeats Florida Gulf Coast, 11-4

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech won its eighth consecutive home game behind 15 base hits and a strong pitching performance from David Paiz with an 11-4 victory over Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday night at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
Texas Tech (13-8) improved to 11-1 at home this season with the win while Florida Gulf Coast dropped to 8-12 overall this season.
Paiz (2-0) threw a season-high 70 pitches while logging five shutout-innings with two strikeouts and one walk allowed and allowed just one walk.
Florida Gulf Coast starter Danny Patrick (0-1) took the loss allowing two runs on four hits in 1.2 innings with three walks allowed.
The Red Raiders used the big inning with four runs in the third and another four runs in the seventh while five Tech players had multi-hit games.
Leading the way offensively was junior first baseman Scott LeJeune who went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
The Red Raiders have five doubles in the game while center fielder Barrett Barnes added one and finished with a multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Senior catcher Kevin Whitehead went 2-for-5 with a double and RBI, senior third baseman Reid Redman went 2-for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI and junior catcher Bo Altobelli went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Tech scored a pair of runs in the first to take an early lead on RBI singles from LeJeune and Redman. Sophomore right fielder Jordan Lopez (1-for-2, run, RBI) added an RBI double to left field in the third while junior second baseman Jamodrick McGruder followed with a two-run single and Barnes capped off the four-run frame with an RBI single to center field.
Overall, 10 Red Raiders finished with at least one base hit.
Four Tech relievers were used in the game while junior right-handed pitcher Jamen Parten led the way pitching 2.1 innings allowing one run (unearned) on one hit with two strikeouts and three walks allowed.
Texas Tech and Florida Gulf Coast will conclude their two-game midweek series on Wednesday, March 21 with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
