Baseball Falls to Baylor

LUBBOCK, Texas - Baylor jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the sixth inning and fended off a late Texas Tech comeback to defeat the Red Raiders 10-6 Sunday at Dan Law Field. The win improves Baylor to 19-7-1 overall and 7-3 in the Big 12 while Texas Tech falls to 19-10 overall and 4-4 in Big 12 play. Dan Law Field had an attendance of 4,550 tickets sold and the three-game series attendance of 12,851 ranks second all-time at Texas Tech.
Baylor jumped on top early with a one run home run from James Blair in the first inning and two runs in the third inning. The Bears went up 5-1 in the fourth inning with two more runs in the fifth inning. Texas Tech battled back to within 9-6 after the seventh inning but the Bears scored a run in the eighth and held the Red Raiders scoreless in the final two innings.
Baylor pitcher Kip Wells (1-1) earned the victory after pitching 6 innings and allowing eight hits and five runs (four earned). He walked two batters and struck out eight. Texas Tech's Jesse Cornejo (5-3) took the loss in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out three batters and gave up four hits, three runs (three earned) and two walks in his time.
Texas Tech was led by rightfielder Kevin Jordan. Jordan hit a home run a double and finished 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Catcher Josh Bard went 2-5 with a run scored, Jason Huth doubled twice and went 2-4 with a run scored and Keith Ginter homered.
Texas Tech is next in action on Tuesday (March 24) at home against Eastern New Mexico at 7 p.m. at Dan Law Field.
