STILLWATER, Okla.-- A 12th inning Mark Austry double drove home baserunner Keith Ginter from first base to clinch a 13-12 Texas Tech victory at Oklahoma State Friday. Texas Tech improves to 21-10 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12 Conference. The loss for Oklahoma State (17-9, 4-4 Big 12) ended their eight-game winning streak. It was Texas Tech's second extra innings game in a row.
Austry's double drove home Ginter from first base to put the Red Raiders up 13-12 going into the bottom of the 12th inning. Texas Tech inserted reliever Shane Wright for the final inning. Wright responded with only nine pitches and put Oklahoma State away. He earned his first career save of his collegiate career. Texas Tech's Joe Smith earned his first victory.
Texas Tech used seven of its nine pitchers in the game.
The Red Raiders jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but Oklahoma State battled back to lead 8-4 after consecutive four run innings in the second and third. Tech tied the game at 8-8 aided by a Kevin Jordan three-run home run in the fifth inning. The Cowboys regained the led with a run in the sixth before Texas Tech erupted for four more in the eighth to go up 12-9. But Oklahoma State rallied to send the game into extra inning with three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Tech was led by Ginter's three hits (3-4 performance), home run, double, RBI and four runs scored. Kevin Jordan finished 2-6 with three RBI, a three-run home run and a triple, Josh Bard went 2-6 with a run and two RBI, Austry finished 2-5 with three RBI and a run and Jason Huth went 2-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
