AUSTIN, Texas. - Josh Haney went 2-for-4 and Corey Gerstner pitched 5 2/3 solid innings to lead No. 20 Texas Tech to a 5-2 win over No. 11 Texas on Sunday afternoon in front of 4,583 fans at Disch-Falk Field.

Texas Tech (20-11; 4-5) got runners on first and second in the top of the third thanks to two fielding errors by the Longhorns and left fielder Scooter Jordan delivered a two-out hit through the right side to give Tech a 1-0 lead. Jordan advanced to second on the play on a fielding error by right fielder Dustin Majewski that gave the Longhorns three errors in the inning.

Tech pushed its lead to 2-0 in the top of the fifth as Josh Haney led off the inning with a triple to right-center and Clint McGill drove him home with a fielder's choice as Justin Simmons was unable to make the play at home. Clint McGill was able to steal third to give Tech another runner in close scoring position with just one out but a pop up by T.J Bruce and lineout by Scooter Jordan ended the Tech threat.

The Red Raider lead grew to 4-0 in the sixth as the Red Raiders scored two runs on two hits and a Longhorn defensive error. Cody Fuller led off the inning with a single through the left side and then stole second to move into scoring position. Junior designated hitter Christian Colonel moved Fuller over to third with a bunt sacrifice setting up an RBI single by Doug Beck that scored Fuller. Junior Josh Haney hit a long ball to left-center and it was dropped by Texas left fielder Eric Sultemeier turning the play into a three base error allowing Beck to score from first.

Texas Tech added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Texas reliever J. Brent Cox loaded the bases and T.J. Bruce laid down a RBI bunt single to give Tech a 5-2 lead.

Jeff Karstens, who entered the game in the sixth, retired the side in the bottom of the ninth to seal the win for Texas Tech.

Corey Gerstner improved to 2-1 on the year as he pitched a career-high 5 2/3 innings allowing just four hits and two earned runs. Justin Simmons suffered the loss for Texas as he gave up tow earned runs on four hits.

Texas Tech returns to action on Friday night in a three-game series against Missouri in Columbia. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
