Baseball Defeats Oklahoma State, 10-6
March 29, 1998 STILLWATER, Okla. -- Texas Tech came back from a 6-2 deficit with five runs in the eighth inning and sealed the victory on a three-run home run by Jason Huth in the ninth to defeat Oklahoma State 10-6 Sunday in Stillwater, Okla. The Red Raiders also received a no-hit 4 2/3 inning performance by Jesse Cornejo to hold off Oklahoma State for the win. The victory improves Texas Tech to 22-10 overall and 6-4 in the Big 12 while Oklahoma State falls to 17-10 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12. Game three of the three-game series is tomorrow, Saturday at 2 p.m. at Reynolds Field.
Trailing 6-2, Texas Tech scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to a 7-6 lead. Kevin Jordan led off the inning with a single, Brandon Buckley drove him in on a double, Jason Landreth followed with a single and pinch hitter Brennan Burns drove in Buckley on a single. A sacrifice bunt from Jason Huth moved up two runners for a Ryan Ruiz sacrifice fly RBI. Keith Ginter drove in the tying run on a double. On the next play, an error by the Cowboy first baseman gave Texas Tech a 7-6 lead.
Tech sealed the victory with a three-run home run by Huth in the top of the ninth inning, Huth second of the season.
Reliever Jesse Cornejo (6-3) was brilliant in the game, pitching the final 4 2/3 innings while allowing no hits and no runs while walking only two batters and striking out four.
Six Red Raiders blasted two hits apiece. Huth finished the game with a 2-4 performance with three RBI and a home run and double, Keith Ginter went 2-5 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored, Kevin Jordan went 2-5, Brandon Buckley finished 2-5 with an RBI and run scored, Jason Landreth went 2-4 with two runs scored and Ryan Ruiz went 2-4 with an RBI.
Oklahoma State's Josh Holliday led the Cowboys with a 2-5 performance. He hit two home runs and added five RBI.
