LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas left-hander J.P. Howell held Texas Tech to just two hits and struckout 11 to lead the second-ranked Longhorns to a 4-0 shutout win over the Red Raiders in front of 4,297 fans at Dan Law Field on Saturday afternoon.

Texas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Seth Johnston reached on an error to lead the frame and Curtis Thigpen scored him with an RBI single to left field.

The Longhorns tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth when Thigpen led off the inning with a triple to right-center field and Taylor Teagarden followed with a two-run home run over the right field wall. Robby Hudson plated the final run of the inning when he hit an RBI single through the left side scoring Michael Hollimon. Hollimon reached on a walk and later moved to third on a throwing error by Cooper Fouts.

J.P. Howell picked up the win for Texas as he allowed just two hits and struckout 11 batters in eight innings. Dallas Braden took the loss for Texas Tech in a complete game effort as he gave up two earned runs on six hits and struckout four.
