McElroy's Five Hits Leads Texas Tech To 12-1 Win Over ENMU
April 8, 2003 LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior designated hitter Travis McElroy went 5-for-6 with a home run and Nathan Fouts pitched a complete game to lead Texas Tech to a 12-1 win over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds on Tuesday night at Dan Law Field. Texas Tech (22-13) scored eight runs over the first four innings including a four run third and put the cruise control on from there.
Seven different Red Raiders picked up an RBI on the night and Travis McElroy and Doug Beck each plated two runs apiece. All nine starters picked up a hit on the evening and four Tech players finished with multiple hit games.
Travis McElroy hit his second home run of the season in the sixth inning and the Red Raiders tacked on three more runs in the seventh to take a 12-0 lead. Eastern New Mexico picked up its only run of the game in the top of the eighth on back-to-back hits by Chris Hill and Justin Gee. Boyd Erickson scored Hill with an infield groundout to garner the only RBI of the evening for Eastern New Mexico. Senior Nathan Fouts (3-2) earned the win after pitching a complete game allowing just seven hits and one earned run while striking out three. Jesse Garcia-Perez suffered the loss for Eastern New Mexico as he gave up four earned runs on seven hits through three innings of work. Texas Tech will return to Big 12 Conference action on Friday night as the Red Raiders will host the Kansas Jayhawks in a three-game series at Dan Law Field. The series will mark just the second home Big 12 series of the season for Tech as the Red Raiders have played three of four Big 12 sets on the road. First pitch on Friday night is set for 7 p.m. |
