Baseball Rallies to Defeat Sul Ross State|

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech used an 11-run fifth inning to defeat Sul Ross State 23-11 at Dan Law Field Tuesday. Texas Tech improved to 26-12 on the win while Sul Ross State drops to 11-17 overall. The Red Raiders play New Mexico Highlands at Dan Law Field Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Texas Tech's Kevin Jordan highlighted the evening with with three home runs, matching his previous career high for a game. Jordan also hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to spark the Red Raiders to 11 runs. The four home runs hit by Texas Tech in the fifth tied a Big 12 Conference record for home runs in an inning. That record is jointly held by Texas Tech who hit four homers in an inning last year in a game with the College of the Southwest.
Jordan finished the evening with a 5-6 performance with seven RBI and four runs scored. His three home runs came on consecutive at-bats. His five hits and seven RBI also tied career highs.
Other Red Raiders had big nights. Ryan Ruiz finished the night with a 3-6 performance with three RBI and two runs scored, Mark Austry went 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, Jason Landreth went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Jason Huth finished 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Brandon Buckley went 1-6 with two RBI and two runs scored and Josh Bard went 1-6 with three runs scored.
Reliever Joe Smith pitched 5.0 innings, allowed 11 hits and five runs (five earned) in earning the victory.
