Box Score

LINCOLN, Neb. - Junior reliever Adam Fry struckout six in 3 2/3 innings of relief while first baseman Josh Brady went 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead Texas Tech to a 10-7 win over No. 12 Nebraska on Saturday afternoon, snapping the Husker win streak at nine games.

The win also snapped a three-game Big 12 losing streak for Texas Tech as the Red Raiders improved to 2-5 in league play while Nebraska dropped to 6-2. The win ties the series at one game each and the two teams are scheduled to play the rubber match of this series at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday.

The Red Raider bullpen was stellar on the afternoon as Tech turned to senior right-hander Steve Gooch in the fourth inning when starter Dallas Braden got into trouble with just one out in the inning. Gooch pushed his record to 4-0 on the season as he gave up just one earned run on two hits in two innings of work. Gooch's solid outing opened the door for Adam Fry who pitched the final 3 2/3 innings allowing just one hit and struckout six. The save was his first of the season.

Nebraska (24-6; 6-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jake Mullinax hit a two-run home run to right field. The home run was his sixth of the season and his second of the series.

Texas Tech (19-12; 2-5) scratched out a run in the top of the third as Husker starter Phil Shirek loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch and two walks. Nebraska catcher John Grose brought home Tech's first run of the game when he tried to pick off Michael Mask at first but the ball went sailing into right field allowing Blair to scored from third.

The Huskers pushed their lead to 4-1 in the bottom half of the inning thanks to an RBI double by Alex Gordon and an RBI single from first baseman Curtis Ledbetter.

The Red Raiders answered in the top half of the fourth as Tech plated five runs in the inning on four hits. Tech chased Shirek in the frame as he loaded the bases with a double to Josh Haney, a walk to Jose Delgado and a Madison Edwards single to right. Shirek walked Haney home and was then replaced by Brad Furnish who lasted just a 1/3 of an inning. Furnish allowed Delgado to score on a wild pitch and then gave up an RBI single to junior catcher Cooper Fouts.

In what was a see saw battle early in the game, the Huskers came right back and tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a two-RBI single from Collin Shockey. The Husker then took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Curtis Ledbetter. Ledbetter's single to center field plated Alex Gordon who led off the inning with a walk.

The Red Raiders took over the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning when junior first baseman Josh Brady laced a two-RBI triple that bounced off the wall in center field. The triple was his second of the season and the 13th by the team.

Texas Tech added two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth to extend the Tech lead to 10-7. Delgado and Madison Edwards each picked up RBI singles in the inning.
