Texas Tech Uses Late-Game Comeback to Defeat Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas Tech scored all eight of its runs in the final five innings to come back and defeat Texas State, 8-5, on Monday evening at Bobcat Stadium. The win marked the seventh straight for Tech in midweek games - the longest streak for the Red Raiders since 1999.
Texas Tech improves to 24-15 overall while Texas State drops to 23-13 overall.
Texas State led 2-0 through four innings before Texas Tech scored eight runs, including four in the seventh, to complete its 10th come-from-behind win this season.
Aaron Corwin (1-0) earned his first career win pitching 1.1 innings with one strikeout. John Neely entered in the seventh inning and pitched 2.1 innings for his sixth save of the season while allowing two runs on two hits with three strike outs.
Barrett Barnes led Texas Tech going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI while hitting two doubles. Nick Popescu also drove in two runs while David Paiz went 2-for-4 with his 13th multi-hit game of the season going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double.
Barnes tied the game with a bases loaded walk in the seventh inning. Popescu followed with a two-run single to right-center field which scored the go-ahead run and also the fifth run for the Red Raiders.
The eventual game-winning run scored on Stephen Hagen's single through the left side, which followed Barnes and Popescu's run-scoring at-bats.
Texas Tech will be back in Big 12 Conference action this weekend with a road trip to Manhattan, Kan., facing Kansas State for a three-game set at Tointon Family Stadium. The series begins on Thursday, April 21 (6:30 p.m.) and will continue on Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.).
