LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior right fielder Madison Edwards went 4-for-4 and Cameron Blair capped off the evening with a grand slam to lead Texas Tech to a 19-9 pounding of the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Tuesday night at Dan Law Field.

Texas Tech has now won seven straight games and improves to 25-12 overall while ACU falls to 28-22.

Abilene Christian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as the Wildcats rattled Tech starter Michael McGowan for one run on two hits.

Texas Tech came back in the bottom of the second and took a 2-1 lead on RBI singles by Matthew Coco and Cameron Blair.

The Wildcats again came charging back in the top of the third as they got lead off hitter Cody Cure on board by virtue of a fielding error and then Tech reliever Barrett Pliler walked Dan Gubbels. Cure and Gubbels recorded a double steal to set up an RBI single by Ryan Barker and an RBI sacrifice fly out by Matt Callahan. C.J. Goularte brought home the final Wildcat run of the inning on a double to left center.

Texas Tech regained the lead for good in the bottom of the third as the Wildcats loaded the bases and then junior right fielder Madison Edwards brought every one home including himself as he singled to center and then scored a on a three base error by ACU center fielder Chris Judkins. Judkins misplayed the ball and it went rolling behind him all the way to the center field wall.

Texas Tech scored five runs in the sixth and four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to push the lead to 19-9 after surrendering five runs in the seventh and eighth. Josh Brady picked up his 13th home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth as he delivered a three-run dinger to left-center field. Cameron Blair laid the final blow for Texas Tech when he delivered a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning. The grand slam was his second of the season and was his fifth home run of the year.

 

 

Barrett Pliler (4-1) earned the win for Texas Tech as he pitched two innings of relief allowing no earned runs on two hits and struckout two. Coy Polk (6-6) suffered the loss for ACU as he surrendered five earned runs on five hits in three innings of work.

Madison Edwards was 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI while Cameron Blair finished the day 3-for-5 with a game-high five RBI.

Texas Tech continues its homestand over the weekend as the Red Raiders will host the league-leading Oklahoma Sooners in a three-game series at Dan Law Field.
