Baseball Bombs Iowa State 12-1

AMES, Iowa--Four homers and a complete-game three-hitter by Jesse Cornejo was too much for the Iowa State Cyclones, as the No. 19 Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated ISU, 12-1 in baseball action Sunday afternoon at Cap Timm Field.

Cornejo pitched one of his best outings of the year, mowing down a career-high 11 Cyclone batters en route to his eighth win of the season. Cornejo was backed up by a 16-hit barrage that produced 12 runs on the day for Texas Tech. Second baseman Kevin Jordan jacked two homers, driving in five runs on three hits. Josh Bard and Keith Ginter also hit round-trippers for Texas Tech. Ryan Ruiz, Brennan Burns, Bard, Jordan, Mark Austrey and Miles Durham all had multi-hits on the afternoon for the Red Raiders.

Cyclone starter Shawn Sedlacek went 6 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on 11 hits to register the loss (3-6). Freshman catcher Jason McNertney drove in the lone Cyclone run with his first hit of the year on a single in the fifth inning. Doug Kinsel and Matt McDonough collected the other two hits for ISU.

ISU, 13-18 overall and 6-10 in Big 12, travel to Stillwater, Okla., to face Oklahoma State in a three-game set, April 21-22. Texas Tech (32-14 overall, 12-8 Big 12) stays on the road, battling Nebraska, April 21-22 in Lincoln, Neb.
