Texas Tech Drops No. 13 Oklahoma 6-5 In 10 Innings

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior left fielder Ryan Andrews delivered a one-out RBI single to right field in the bottom of the 10th inning giving Texas Tech a 6-5 win over No. 13 Oklahoma in front of 4,040 fans at Dan Law Field on Sunday afternoon. The win gives Texas Tech the series win 2-1 as the Red Raiders rebounded after losing on Friday night by posting 14-4 and 6-5 wins. Texas Tech improves to 27-13 overall and 8-6 in the Big 12 while Oklahoma falls to 26-16 and 13-5 in league play. Senior third baseman Josh Haney got Tech rolling in the bottom of the 10th as he led off with a single to right field. Junior second baseman Jose Delgado moved Haney to third when he reached on a bunt single that he beat out on the throw. Junior Madison Edwards moved Haney and Delgado over with a sacrifice bunt, giving the Red Raiders runners at second and third with one out. Ryan Andrews then plated the winning run when he belted an RBI single on a 3-2 offering into right field allowing Haney to score. The game didn't seem to be headed for extra innings but the Sooners were able to mount a three-run rally in the top of the eighth to tie the score at 4-4. Oklahoma then proceeded to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth off a solo home run to right field by catcher Josh Stinson. Junior catcher Cooper Fouts led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to left field and was then replaced by pinch runner Marcus Lewis. Lewis moved to second on a balk call and then scored the tying run when junior first baseman Josh Brady doubled to left field. Texas Tech rode the arm of junior hurler Michael McGowan who put in one of his best performances of the season today. McGowan allowed just four hits and two earned runs and struckout four in 7 1/3 innings in what turned out to be a no-decision. Josh Haney led the offensive effort for Texas Tech as he went 3-for-5 with two RBI while Delgado finished 2-for-4. Corey Gerstner (4-0) picked up the win for Texas Tech in relief as he pitched the final 1 2/3 innings without allowing a hit and struckout two. Daniel McCutchen took the loss for Oklahoma as he allowed two earned runs on five hits in the over the last 3 1/3.
Texas Tech returns to action on Tuesday night as the Red Raiders will host the New Mexico Lobos at Dan Law Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
