Baseball Defeats Oklahoma 15-11 in a 36-hit Slugfest

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech broke its offensive slump Saturday as it registered 19 hits to defeat Oklahoma 15-11 at Dan Law Field. Game three of the three game weekend series is Sunday at 1 p.m. Texas Tech improves to 14-11 in the Big 12 Conference and 34-17 overall while Oklahoma drops to 12-9 in the Big 12 and 32-14 overall.
Oklahoma jumped out to a quick lead with four runs in the first inning but it was all Texas Tech in the middle innings. The Red Raiders scored seven runs in the third inning to go along with two in the first inning to grab a 9-4 lead. Tech bunched together eight hits in scoring the seven runs. Tech went up 15-7 with four more runs the sixth inning on a Josh Bard three-RBI home run over the left field fence. It was Bard's second home run of the game (he hit a two-run shot in the first inning).
Starter Monty Ward (5-4) pitched 7.0 innings for the victory. The Texas Tech career strikeout recordholder struck out eight batters in earning the victory. His ERA in his last three losses was 2.86 but the righthander allowed 11 earned runs and still got the victory.
The Sooners battled back and even loaded the bases in the ninth inning with the tying run at-bat. Zach Stewart relieved Cade Allison who pitched one inning of relief for the save. Stewart earned his first save on the season after getting the final two outs on a 3-6-1 groundout to end the game.
Bard led the Red Raiders with a 3-5, two home run, 5 RBI and three runs scored performance. Ryan Ruiz went 3-4 with three runs and an RBI, Mark Austry hit his seventh home run on the season and went 2-5 with two RBI, Keith Ginter finished 2-5 with an RBI, Brennan Burns went 2-5 with an RBI and two runs, Jason Landreth went 2-5 with an RBI and two runs and Jason Huth went 3-4 with an RBI and run scored.
